Question: I have the Lowrance HDS12 Live units and would like to monitor AIS traffic. Looking to understand the difference between these 2 units as the Simrad is about $120 more, but both units look, seem to be the same?

They are virtually identical with only cosmetic differences. They both handle AIS the same. The only difference is the RS40 has an optional wireless handset. Lowrance does not offer the handset.
