The R109LH is an externally mounted, 2 kW transducer which delivers excellent target resolution, bottom discrimination, and bait and game-fish separation. The R109LH is packed with a fifteen-element, low-frequency array that operates at anywhere between 38 and 75 kHz, delivering great depth capability down to 1,829 m (6,000').
The single, high-frequency ceramic operates at any frequency between 130 and 210 kHz and has a narrow (8° to 4°) beam that provide tremendous bottom detail and fish-target discrimination at depths to 457 m (1,500').
Note: 33-541-01 – Stainless Steel Stuffing Tube is included.

This transducer will be ideal for deep dropping. so if queen snapper are deep, and hang toward the bottom then this is the best thing going for that.

Answer:
The R509 is an upgrade from the R109. It has more ceramic elements. The R509 is larger. Otherwise they are both CHIRP, and share similar frequencies and cone angles. If you have a 3kW sounder then R509 can use all the power. The R109 is only 2kW.
